ten national parks, one national monument, many state parks, many miles of hikes, all in three months…
We have arrived, so the trip beings. After some delays due to American Airlines and missing our connection we got here at last 11pm Las Vegas time.
Will do some touristy things today around Vegas, a bit of gambling and stretch out by the pool, it’s 31˚c this morning so time for a swim we think.
After each hike we plan on posting our treks for each National Park here which can be opened and viewed with Google Earth. We are using a Garmin GPSMAP 60 for trekking plus National Geographic maps and compass as a battery free backup. With the GPS we will be able to monitor progress all the way allowing us to track distance, altitude, speed and also check sunrise and sunset times which will come in handy for early hikes.

Haven’t got around to doing this yet but when I have more time online and not camping I will give it a go. Should work OK although on some hikes the GPS doesn’t work due to deep canyons or walking under 5,000ft cliffs. But will upload soon.
Our major gear buying is at last finished we both picked up an Osprey backpack each over in Glasgow, Scotland at the Ellis Brigham store which is great for outdoor gear.
I got an Osprey Crescent 70 and Louise picked up an Osprey Luna 70 which is designed for women. We just need to adjust them and go on a hike to break them in for the USA.
